The Burrison Gallery Presents:
Impressions By Color and Water
An exhibition of paintings by Nella Seward
December 8, 2025 through January 24, 2026

ARTIST STATEMENT
- Nella Seward is a watercolor artist whose creative journey began in Rome, Italy, where she studied the arts until the age of 17. Driven by a passion for artistic and professional growth, she immigrated to the United States and pursued her education at Temple University. Her career evolved through roles in architecture and design, including work as a facility designer for prominent institutions and firms.
- One of Nella’s most meaningful professional achievements was her leadership in the design and renovation of the historic Palestra at the University of Pennsylvania—a project that blended her artistic sensibility with architectural precision. After retiring from her design career, Nella returned to her first love: fine art.
- Today, she dedicates herself fully to creating and selling watercolor paintings, along with works in other media. Her art reflects a lifelong devotion to beauty, structure, and expression, shaped by her international background and decades of creative experience.
- ARTISTIC VISION & INSPIRATION
- Burrison Gallery Show: Impressions by Color and Water
- My name is Nella Seward. I was born in Rome, Italy, where I was immersed in the arts from a young age. At 17, I immigrated to the United States to continue my artistic and professional development, a journey that has deeply shaped my creative perspective.
- My work is rooted in a lifelong passion for drawing, sketching, and painting. I am especially drawn to nature—its forms, colors, and movement—which I explore through watercolor and other media. I find inspiration not only in the grandeur of the natural world but also in the quiet, often overlooked beauty of everyday surroundings.
- Watercolor, with its fluid unpredictability, challenges me to balance control and spontaneity. I embrace the delicacy and precision it demands, using the interplay between water and pigment to depict motion, atmosphere, and life. Each piece is a celebration of the subtle details that connect us to the world around us.
